HAPPY SUMMER DAYS? NOT FOR EVERYONE!

Spring and Summer is a happy time for most of us.
We enjoy the longer days, the warmer weather; hopefully plenty of sunshine …all bring a feeling of general well being.

We look forward to our summer holiday. We may return to a much loved regular venue, or look to break fresh ground or experience new adventures each year. Wherever we go we return home with photographs and memories that capture these carefree days.

Sadly not everyone enjoys the Summer. For the bereaved conflicting emotions can surface. A departed loved partner, relation or friend can no longer be our holiday companion. Remembering happy past times, now impossible to recreate, can bring feelings of jealousy and resentment as we see others go away, however much we wish the holidaymakers well.

Routines inevitably change. The regular visit or telephone call, which means so much to those who are alone, does not happen when people go off to Benidorm or Blackpool. Sometimes the contact is not re-established on return. The light Summer nights offer chances for hobbies or sports, perhaps at the expense of the usual “bereavement “ visiting.

In these and many comparable circumstances, where anyone is lonely or in need of comfort and support, even if only temporarily until a return to “normal”, please remember that the NBT Helplines exist to help.
