THE FIRST STEP IS THE DIFFICULT ONEMost of us pick up the telephone and dial a number several times a day. A routine thing. Nothing difficult about it at all. But imagine you are struggling with bereavement. Someone says: 'Why don't you ring the Helpline?'. It is not just as easy as that. Many thoughts have to be dealt with first:
All perfectly reasonable points to make - and postpone the call. May we suggest another question to ask yourself: If you take that difficult first step, and ring our Helpline - 0800 435 455 - perhaps we can help you. One of our Volunteer team in 'on duty' every evening. Almost all have their own experience of bereavement. Carefully, and without haste, as they have been trained to do, they will listen to your story. Inevitably bereavement is long on questions and short on answers. Everyone who suffers the pain of the death of a loved relation or friend has to find their own way through it. Often this may take months or even years. By being available - every evening of the year (with
no exeptions!) between 6.00pm and 10.00pm, by giving you their time, by
talking to you and extending 'a sympathetic and listening ear',
our Helpline gives a bereaved person the chance to talk - freely and in
confidence. Talking cannot solve the agony of bereavement - but in most cases it can help a little. Take the first step, difficult though it is. Ring our Freephone Helpline - 0800 435 455.
